FrameAxis Sourcing Guide to Offsite Method Alternatives

FrameAxis Sourcing is an independent sourcing service. Buyers who arrive from a panel built search can compare volumetric modules, panelized kits, foldable shells and steel systems without treating this page as a factory catalog. The desk does not claim to be an authorized dealer. Open choices stay open until the quoting plant and the buyer close them in writing.

Volumetric module, wall panels and a rigid frame in one yard

A method decision in sequence

1. Route

Measure gate width, bridge limits and the crane the pad can stand. A volumetric box fails here before finish level matters.

2. Fit

Test module dimensions against the room layout. A standard repeatable unit is useful when the grid matches. A custom frame is the question when span or snow load does not.

3. Joints

For panelized or foldable work, list who seals the joints and which party owns weather delay.

4. Envelope

Write insulated metal panel or stud wall, the thermal transmittance target, and the fire-resistance rating the jurisdiction asked for.

5. Release

Accept an alternative after deviations in clear span, bay spacing, coating and scope are marked and approved.

Specification choices that are still open

Nothing in this table is a default sold by FrameAxis Sourcing. It is the list a buyer should see answered, or explicitly left blank, on each proposal.

Structure

Primary frameHot-rolled rigid frame, cold-formed load path, or module chassis. Name the path.
Secondary framingPurlin and girt spacing, or the stud spacing inside a volumetric wall.
Design loadsDesign live load example 50 psf, design dead load example 10 psf, wind speed example 110 mph, wind exposure category, ground snow load example 30 psf, seismic design category.

Enclosure and move

Transport envelopeWidth example 12 ft, height example 13 ft and weight at the plant gate, plus the opened size if the unit folds.
Foundation interfaceReaction table and who designs the pad, piers or slab edge.
CoatingsSteel grade and coating mass as the supplier submits them, not as a site slogan.

Before an alternative is accepted

Which choices can stay blank on the opening call?

Exact member sizes can wait for the plant. Use, footprint, eave height, jurisdiction, quantity, destination and the scope boundary should not wait, or the opening number will not be comparable.

What should be verified on the submittal?

That the calculation set matches the quoted system, the project address and the code edition. A reference to AISC 360 or AWS D1.1 is a request for the applicable document, not a statement that this desk holds it.

How do volumetric and panelized quotes diverge?

Volumetric modular construction spends more hours before the truck leaves and spends the site day on set and stitch. Panelized construction spends the site day on assembly. Crane time, weather and finish level move the total. Compare those lines, not a single square-foot figure.

What if the buyer has a target budget?

Write the amount or range, USD, and whether it is per module or for the whole order. Premium, mid-range, budget-friendly or undecided describes the buyer preference. It is not a rating and it is not a quotation already in hand.

Ask for a method comparison, not a brand transfer

  • State the method you want priced, and the method you will accept as a substitute.
  • Keep shell and installed responsibilities in different sentences.
  • List the drawings you will send after a person replies. The form has no file upload.

Factories still confirm whether they will bid. FrameAxis Sourcing organizes the questions.

Project brief

Include the specification, quantity, destination and delivery timing. Shell, delivered, installed and turnkey prices are different scopes.
